It has a minimally invasive role, instead of the traditional open surgery, is currently used in urology is very extensive. Ureteral rigid scopes can be done transurethrally for intravesical and lower and middle ureteral stones, while ureteral flexible scopes, can be done transurethrally, for kidney type stones.
The use of ureteroscopy
Ureteroscopy can be used to check for diseases of the urethra, bladder, ureter and renal pelvis. A ureteroscope is a tubular instrument that usually passes through the urethra and through the bladder into the ureter, with a mirror at the front of the instrument that reflects back through the image to the other end. It allows you to look at the structure of the ureter and determine if there are any structural abnormalities, the degree of abnormality, and other urethral disorders. It helps to diagnose the presence of urethral strictures, urethral stones and other conditions. Ureteroscopy can also help determine if there is damage to the bladder mucosa and if there are stones in the bladder.
